Adenike Aiyedun - Founding Partner

Dr. Adenike Aiyedun - Head Research and Policy Unit holds a Ph.D and an LL.M from the University of Cape Town, a B.L from the Nigerian Law School and LL.B (Hons.) from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

She has almost a decade of international academic and professional work experience, which includes appointment as a Fellow under the National Research Foundation of South Africa (NRF) – supervised by the Chair in African Customary Law, Indigenous Values and Human Rights based at the University of Cape Town.

She has also served as a Visiting Research Fellow in South Africa at the Institute for Advanced Constitutional, Public, Human Rights and International Law (SAIFAC).

 

Dr. Adenike has various corporate and supranational experiences, working at Brandsmiths Consulting Limited as the Chief Operating Officer and Head of the Legal Department. In that capacity, she engaged with Government officials to secure contracts, and oversaw higher level training programs in Nigeria, as well as in the Middle East and Western Europe.

She has also consulted for the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) as an assistant to the legal consultant, where she co-drafted the African Union Anti-Corruption Model Law, designed to criminalize the offence of corruption and corrupt practices and harmonize the provisions of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. 

Dr Adenike has been engaged in various voluntary services. In recognition of her expertise in African legal theory, she has been invited to participate in a number of media appearances, primarily in South Africa, and has contributed to opinion articles in media outlets, such as Cape Argus South Africa, SA FM, and SABC Radio.

Adenike has published various works, including Accessing Justice within Plural Normative Systems in Africa; Integrating the Traditional with the Contemporary in Dispute Resolution in Africa and Understanding Human Rights in the Context of African States: The Role of Traditional Leaders in the New South Africa.

 She is currently working on a new project, Access to Justice for Rural Women in Africa: The South African Case.
